![]() ![]() Essentially, it just feels like a better-designed and more refined M0. However, I think what FiiO has done here was to see what worked on the M0, and what could be improved. We are getting the same display size and resolution, an almost-identical physical size, and both devices are even targeting the same price-point. ![]() But, I think it would be really difficult to argue that the M5 isn’t at least somewhat inspired by the M0. Yup, that’s right, the M5 even has you covered for making phone calls, and you can also use the M5 as a voice recorder.ĭesign-wise the M5 is very similar to the M0 from Shanling, although it is just a tiny bit larger, and it does lack that volume dial found on the M0. There is also a microphone on either side of the volume rocker which are used when taking calls. It’s the first time I’ve seen such a compact and affordable full-featured music player offer this type of digital connection. This port is of course where you would plug in your headphones, but it can also function as both a lineout and a digital COAX connection (switchable within the UI). The bottom houses the USB Type-C charging and data port as well as a single microSD card slot, whereas the top features the power-button, volume rocker, and the multi-functional 3.5mm port. It’s not a particularly crisp display given that it has a pixel density of just 220 pixels per inch, but it also feels adequate for its intended usage and the device’s price-point. On the front is a 1.54-inch IPS touch-display which offers a resolution of 240×240. However, neither of those devices could even hope to match what the M5 is, but we’ll take a closer look at that when we discuss the overall features. The closest competitor in terms of FiiO’s own line-up would be the original M3, and then its replacement, the M3K. The M5 is the most compact standalone music player to come from FiiO thus far and is, volumetrically speaking, only ever so slightly larger than the upcoming BTR5. ![]() Battery-life: Up to 10.5 hrs via wired connection / 12 hrs via Bluetooth connection (SBC). ![]()
